Tripper
March 2004
Tripper's
energetic pop/rock has carved out a niche in the rising
Detroit music scene with its storytelling style. the
band has drawn comparisons to toad the wet sprocket,
Third Eye Blind, Matchbox 20, Lit, Goo Goo Dolls and
even Dave Matthews. The band kicked off March of 2004
by performing at Detroit's brand new Hard Rock Café.
During the past five years, Tripper
has performed on some of the best stages in the Midwest,
been featured on commercial radio in Detroit and named
one of the "Best Unsigned Bands" on the
now-defunct MP3.com. Before MP3.com shut down, Tripper
songs had been downloaded more than 20,000 times from
the site.
The band was formed in 1999 by guitarists
Steve Marvicsin and Frank Buscemi, who were both performing
as solo, acoustic artists at Central Michigan University's
"Gentle Friday" festival.
Drummer Ken Thomas, who had performed with Buscemi
for several years prior, keyboardist Aaron Berch and
bassist Rob Carr later joined to round out the lineup.
Tripper is currently promoting its
second full-length release, Yesterday, Friday &
Today, while the record's first track, "Clearly
Mistaken" is featured on three compilation CDs
- two in the U.S. and one in Australia.
Amazon.com says of the release,
"The second release from the Detroit-based pop/rock
quartet, Tripper, entitled "yesterday, friday
& today", blends edgy guitars and great melodies
with storytelling lyrics. From the word "go"
muttered at the beginning of "Clearly Mistaken",
the driving opening track to "One Summertime",
the closing country-inspired number, the album never
loses its grip on the listener. Yesterday, Friday
& Today is passionate, driving and fun - and a
great addition to any collection."
