Yesterday's
Tomorrow
November 2003
The
gang at YOURLOCALSCENE.COM
had a chance to interview the band ... here's what
they had to say:
Intensity of a Thursday, the drive of any major on
the market today. We'd like to introduce you to Yesterday's
Tomorrow. A team of guys with the fight inside to
not call it quits in an industry that can eat you
alive. YT may be new to the Vegas scene, but one look,
listen and learnin' session with these guys will show
you that they are serious about the future of music.
With driving hooks, almost primal ( emotion filled
) screams, they bring you in to wanting more.. more..
more.. Take a few to get to know YT and find out what
keeps these guys going and why you need to take a
chance on a newer band to hit the Vegas scene.
YourLocalScene.com What do
each of you guys play in the band ?
Christian: I play the guitar.
Clayton: I sing.....I think? Mark: I play
guitar Mike: I play bass guitar and I do a
little back up dancing as well. Tyler: I play
drums, and Mike is gay.
YourLocalScene.com Ok so, new to the
scene as Yesterdays Tomorrow..where did the name come
from ? Why are you guys rising so fast in the Valley
? Promotion ? Hype ? Good Music ? What's been your
drive ?
Christian: Umm the name came from Mike's grandmother
I think, she is insane (literally). I asked her what
year she was born, and she told me 1933. I guess that's
where it came from. I think our rise is dedicated
to our hard work, there isn't a day that goes by that
we aren't doing something to help out our band or
our name, whether it be practicing or promoting.
Clayton: I'll let mark explain the name. Music
is all I do. Anything we receive comes from nothing
but dedication and hard work. My personal drive is
to rock, and indeed we rock! (I'm not cocky I'm just
proud.)
Mark: Yesterdays Tomorrow came from the thought
of every day flying by so fast that you realize that
its always Today
Mike: We are all about promotion and working hard.
That's where the hype comes from as well...there is
no hype unless we are out there creating it and spreading
the word.
Tyler: Werd.
YourLocalScene.com In two words, describe
your live show and what one would expect to take home
after seeing you.
Christian: Loud and Crazy
Clayton: Rock & Roll!
Mark: symthotic emotions...you would take your
tears in T-shirts home
Mike: Wicked Awesome...The only thing I can guarantee
you taking home with you is me...oh devil!
Tyler: Pretty good.
YourLocalScene.com Is Yesterdays Tomorrow
really today ? Or is it last weeks 2 for Tuesday ?
Christian: I know what Mike's gonna say...it means
we're the band of today..
Clayton: You know this...
Mark: actually you spelled it wrong, its yadot
Mike: Hell yes it means today...the band of today!
Tyler: 2 for Tuesday
YourLocalScene.com Some of you guys
( as far as I know ) have played in some other local
bands ( mike, we won't mention your previous ).. How
has been in other bands differed from where you guys
are today ?
Christian: I've played in a couple of no-name
bands here in Vegas, and it's been awesome because
if I hadn't gone through those bands, I wouldn't be
as excited and grateful as I am today.
Clayton: Ya, what mike said...
Mark: Being in this band is once in a lifetime
opportunity and with out it i'd be invisible
Mike: Yes me and Clayton were in Think of Rufus
and I'm proud of it because it's shaped what kind
of music I play today...I just see it as getting all
the kinks out early on...I've played in other bands
as well and it's all showed me what not to do and
I think that's very important when it comes to being
successful.
YourLocalScene.com Christian, you spent
a little time on the road with Waiting For Autumn,
has this helped you in your current project ? What
were your "music" experiences with the band ?
Christian: I knew you would talk about that! Being
in WFA was an amazing experience for me. I was around
some of the nicest people, and was in a band with
4 of the most talented guys I have ever met. They
really taught me a lot about the music business and
music itself, and it was, without a doubt, one of
the most incredible learning experiences for me. And
most importantly, they taught me how to "own the stage."
I think that experience matured me...but as far as
the people go - I couldn't ask for a better bunch
of guys to share the stage with than Clayton, Mike,
Tyler and Mark. We all work hard at what we do, but
we get along doing it...I think it shows in our music
and in our show.
YourLocalScene.com Mike… your clothing
line you are toying with " MIMORTL ".. does the rest
of your band share your same philosophy ? When can
we expect to see you do a little more with the clothes
?
Mike: My band totally shares the same philosophy...if
they didn't, I wouldn't be in this band. Clayton and
I started MIMORTL (Music Is My Only Reason To Live)
because we saw all these musicians starting these
clothing lines up that have to do at all about music.
So we decided to start something with meaning, something
that all the bands in this country are dedicating
themselves to. As for when you will see the clothes...hopefully
soon, when the bands come asking for it they will
get it...
www.mimortl.com Keep checking there for updates.
YourLocalScene.com Are you guys all
from Vegas ? If not… where the hell are ya from ?
Christian: Vegas baby, Vegas.
Clayton: I was born in a small town in Oklahoma.
Mark: oceanside, california
Mike: Chi-Town
Tyler: Texas
YourLocalScene.com What do you guys
think of the valleys local music scene ? Is it on
the rise ? Slackin ? What makes it the way it is ?
Christian: I thought Vegas' scene was pretty decent
until I went down to San Diego. Those kids are dedicated
as hell to their music, and pretty much lust for it.
But I would say that we could have a pretty decent
music scene here if the bands would help each other
out more, and the fans would open their minds to more
bands. I see a lot of kids going to the same bands'
show, but they won't go support anymore bands. For
the most part though, bands here have been more than
willing to lend a hand and have been pretty supportive
of us.
Clayton: The Vegas Scene has improved to a degree.
What I would really like to see is the local bands
here uniting more..
Mark: for the most part the scene seems to have
enough to be on the front page of New York Times
Mike: I think it's on the rise because the bands
are getting better. The only thing that brings it
down is all the shit talking lots on bands do. We
should all be helping each other out and it sucks
that it always doesn't work out that way. But the
bands that we have had to deal with and play shows
with have all been insanely cool for the most part
so it's getting there.
Tyler: I think its better then what i've seen
in the past, but there is always room for improvement.
YourLocalScene.com Million dollar question…let's
just say.. well.. ok.. so this guy drops a million
in your lap, the only catch is that you have to use
ALL the dough on a show. Where is the show, when,
who's playin with ya guys and why ?
Christian: We would open for Thrice, Thursday,
Brand New, the Bled, Genesis, and Matchbox Twenty.
Clayton: No comment.
Mark: the million dollar show would happen huvvering
30 feet over Venice Beach California
Mike: The concert would be at Michael Jacksons
Neverland Ranch and Michael Jackson and Prince would
Headline.
Tyler: Im going with Mike.
YourLocalScene.com Hey uh, I need a
ride to the grocery store, 5 days in a row… you each
are gonna be cool and come get me each day.. what
are we going to be listening to on the way there ?
Christian: Probably Thursday, MB20, the Bled,
Fear Before the March of Flames, Waiting For Autumn,
the Used, SO many bands...
Clayton: The Police.
Mark: Mozart
Mike: S.T.U.N kicks ass ( note from YourLocalScene.com,
uh… no they don't )
Tyler: Vendetta Red every single day
YourLocalScene.com To date, what's been
your favorite place to play and why ?
Christian: Definitely, definitely, the benefit
show at Skate City. It meant SO much to me, and I
think we poured everything we had onto that stage.
I plan on making my next new fav the House of Blues,
you will see us like you have never seen before.
Clayton: To date, the sacred grounds cafe', in
San Pedro, CA. no comment.
Mark: The Huntridge and the hyped 1000 people
that were their watching
Mike: I would say The Huntridge, just because
i like playing on the big stage and alot of great
bands have played there. Threes nothing like playing
to a packed house at the Huntridge.
Tyler: San Pedro is the shit.
YourLocalScene.com Who are your favorite
local bands to gig with ?
Christian: I love every band out here...but if
I had to pick some, I would say One More Weekend,
Brown Eyed Deception, and Jr. Anti Sex League.
Clayton: I have no favorites...
Mike: One More Weekend, Brown Eyed Deception,
and Jr. Anti Sex league are the shit.
Tyler: I enjoy playing with everybody. (Who shows
up on time)
YourLocalScene.com The year of 2003
is coming quickly to an end, what has been your greatest
achievements as a band so far ? The coming year of
2004, what are your goals as a band ? The road ? Full
length ?
Christian: Greatest achievement: playing amazing
shows with amazing bands, and having so much fun while
doing it. 2004: playing more great shows, and maybe
doing a little touring, there really is nothing holding
us back now. As far as a full length...I would sure
hope so. We are more about quality than quantity...so
we plan on releasing good songs, not a good number
of songs.
Clayton: We are playing things by ear. We are
down for whatever. There are no limits.
Mark: 2003 has been a slip n slide through liquid
soap and hope to keep sliding on through the grassy
hills
Mike: I think playing the House Of Blues on October
11th is a HUGE achievement for all of us...basically
I see us taking the music business by storm!!!
Tyler: Imp very pleased to be where we are in
such a short time, and excited to see what next year
brings.
YourLocalScene.com Salted crackers or
plain ?
Christian: with peanut butter.
Clayton: Salty..
Mark: SaLtY
Mike: Salty
Tyler: Salty
YourLocalScene.com You guys scored a
slot on our 5th anniversary show on October 11th.
You guys down to rock the house ? First time on the
big stage, what are we going to get from YT ?
Christian: Let's just say that the simple fact
of playing the HOB will bring out even more than we
had expected, look out.
Clayton: You will just have to see...
Mark: well kids and babies bring your diapers
and parents to
Mike: A Rumble
Tyler: More then you can imagine........
YourLocalScene.com Musically, who have
been your influences growing up ? Why did you all
start playing an instrument ? ( mike, this doesn't
mean the skin flute, we already know about that )
Christian: The first band that made me really
want to play was Blink 182 (I said it!!!). But since
then, I honestly would have to say One More Weekend.
Those guys gave me such an understanding to music,
and such a drive to play, and they never even knew
it.
Clayton: Myself. Its just been fate.
Mark: music will always frame my mind and always
will be with me and my guitar , rock music for eternity
Mike: ha...Blink 182, Smashing Pumpkins, and Everclear
helped me out alot.
Tyler: I was brought up around jazz and the big
bands. That heavily influenced my decision to take
up the drums.
YourLocalScene.com Indie label vs Major
label, where are your heads at and why ? Do you think
an indie label can compete and help the bands in a
similar way ?
Christian: I think Indie labels are a great thing
for bands...they can offer so much to help you out,
and that's all it's about right now. But honestly
I haven't looked too much into it...no no comment
after that.
Clayton: No comment.
Mark: no compatibility
Mike: They both have up's and downs...can't judge
until we're in the shoes to judge though i guess.
Tyler: No Comment.
YourLocalScene.com What's the future
of the industry ? The web is playing a major part
in everything we do these days. Do you think that
web is a good thing for bands or is it the devil ?
Christian: I don't see a negative in the web...it
gets so many bands heard that would otherwise be nobodies.
Clayton: I think its awesome. Mark:
The devil gives a band a lip sinking kiss ever so
often Mike: The web is a horny playground for
bands and you can only benefit from it in my opinion.
Tyler: I see both ways, but you have to take
the bad with the good.
YourLocalScene.com I think this should
do it, any final thoughts that you'd like to share
? As Mike's idol Carson Daly would say " Any shout
outs in the house ? " Christian: Thank you
to
YourLocalScene.com and Jeff - Support
local music!!!
Clayton: I would like to say that we will never
stop. Music is my only reason to live. HI MOM!
Mark: there are too many bubbles in front of my
eyes to count
Mike: Check out our website www.yesterdaystomorrow.net
and check out our new song we're releasing, "Maybe
I'll Put Bullets In It" thanks guys
