Question!, Violent Pornography, BYOB...rockin' for sure.  I love the CD and think it compares to Toxicity.
Title: Re:S.O.A.D.
Post by: TwisterX on July 23, 2005, 05:14:39 AM
In my list toxicity is still on top. But with a VERY small lead over Mezmerize. and the other 2 albums (yes, i count steal as an album!) are right behind Mez...

tbh... all their cd's just rock! =)

Cant wait for Hypnotize... oooo!

Post by: Ballkick on September 19, 2005, 07:28:36 AM
I've warmed up to them alot lately.
I'm sure they will put on a good show. The SaddleDome has good acoustics so the sound quality will be good. Spending time with my kid is always worth it anyway. We had a good time at Metallica / Godsmack dispite being in the nose-bleed section. Our seats are much better this time,.. so we'll see.

(http://www.eyecravedvd.com/forums/images/smilies/rocknroll.gif) S.O.A.D. ROCKED THE DOME! (http://www.eyecravedvd.com/forums/images/smilies/rocknroll.gif)

SOAD was totally MEZMERIZING!
Ballkick and the_guy were at the SoaD show last night representing Wazee fans everywhere. They started out with BYOB and the crowd was on there feet and most stayed there till the last song played. I have been to allot of concerts I the past two years and SoaD had the most enthusiastic fans of any concert I've been to in recent memory. Most of the songs had a new intro than I was used to hearing but every song packed a punch that staggered even the 70-year-old lady that was sitting two rows in front of me.
The light show was superb. One of the best concerts I've ever seen.
Sound quality was "bang on."
The only song they didn't play that I wanted to hear was Old School Hollywood; on a scale of 1 to 10 I would give these guys a 9.5.
If you get a chance to see them,...............GO!

Mars Volta was Ok, got to say I thought I was in a time warp with them though.
I couldn't help but make the comparison to Santana. Lots of percussion and Latin beats. Most songs were 8 - 10 min each. Sounding like a free form, jazz jam. The guitar player as I said, sounded just like Carlos Santana. They were good but I'm not sure how good of a match they are with SOAD.
A great evening all in all.

SOAD rawks, i think they pretty much have the same tour going on, only they have a decent support act for you guys... and didnt they start with the whole intro thingy with the big flag?
Title: Re:S.O.A.D.

BK --- you clearly weren't stoned enough to enjoy MarsVolta!

I'm seeing the same show here in Denver in October!!!

Yeah the beginning of the concert started with Darren behind a 20 foot curtain backlit by a single white spot. The curtain had a huge Mezmerize Cd cover head on it. Then it dropped to the ground to reveal the rest of the band playing BYOB.

Howard:
Mars Volta, They were OK. Not my bag, nothing more nothing less.
Fantastic musicians that is a fact. But not my bag.
I've also noticed a common theme when you post about me,...
Almost without fail the "being stoned" reference.
FYI Iwas strait as an arrow.
            I could be wrong,
            Maybe I'm just paranoid.
They say pot does that to some people.

waaaaaaaa!!! i just got this email from the SOAD mailing list:

SYSTEM OF A DOWN SET TO RELEASE HYPNOTIZE NOVEMBER 22 ON CD AND DUALDISC

Six months after System of a Down's Mezmerize debuted at number one on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart, the uncompromising and outspoken quartet returns with Hypnotize, part two of a promised two-album set.  American Recordings/Columbia will release two versions of Hypnotize, the band's fifth studio album, on November 22.

Both the CD and DualDisc versions feature 12 new songs as well as artwork by Vartan Malakian, father of SOAD's guitarist/singer Daron.  The packaging for Hypnotize is specially designed to physically join Mezmerize and Hypnotize together, forming one unified product with continuous artwork.  Additionally, the DualDisc edition will contain exclusive behind-the-scenes footage showing the making of both records.

More importantly, the albums interlock musically.  The final track on Hypnotize, "Soldier Side" completes "Soldier Side Intro," which appears as the opening track on Mezmerize.

HYPNOTIZE Track Listing
1. "Attack"
2. "Dreaming"
3. "Kill Rock 'n Roll"
4. "Hypnotize"
5. "Stealing Society"
6. "Tentative"
7. "U-Fig"
8. "Holy Mountains"
9. "Vicinity of Obscenity"
10. "She's Like Heroin"
11. "Lonely Day"
12. "Soldier Side"

-----------
cant wait!!

I read most of it and I gotta say: This is a prime example of someone who didn't get to play with his G.I.Joe doll enough as a kid and needs desperately to get laid.
Ever notice that when a band gets popular there is a long line of detractors trashing them? This is your proof!
Whatever!
He probably still sits alone in his apartment listening to Level 42 records on his class A tube amp.

It's true though.. they're all against capitalism and mass consumption and make insane amounts of money through every commercial channel imaginable at the same time. Same thing with Radiohead. Love it 8).
But ofcourse the point is they've been saying those things for ages even when they were not famous. And now they're able to make themselves heard BECAUSE they're famous (and rich, and sell records, and in fact became a product of their own). Still a funny contradiction :')

Read some kind of chat-interview with Thom Yorke once, where this guy told Thom to shut up, because no one was interested in hearing some spoiled millionair telling us about the evilness of capitalism. His reaction was something like "please stop listening to our music.... please stop buying our records..." , which seems to be the only right answer to such a thing :)

Well they're on a hiatus now. But lot's of solo projects are coming out.
First one up: Serj with his solo-album 'Elect the Dead'  (out next month)
and there's also a project with Daron and John called 'Scars on Broadway'

so lots to look out for =)

think you can find some songs and videos from Serj online already

(http://www.systemofadown.com updated website, was very surprised to see that a few days ago, hadn't checked it in a while..)
