We'll see how much I need to coax the webserver into displaying current songs first  Cheesy If I end up having to install some special ftp server that can fire off a script to parse whatever info Jeff can upload, I'll consider that my donation, otherwise I'll stick to the plan.

The basic concept looks the same, I just would need to make sure my scripts are scraping IceCast output correctly - I assume it would need some tweaking. I might have time for this tonight...

And no, the current song won't display on the homepage until I have a chance to coordinate w/ Dyno about posting this data to the webserver.

hmm, that first one doesn't smell like a shoutcast server, if that's going to be used permanently that'll cause problems with my playlist management scripts.

I've added the second and it is now being served on the pls files.

Dyno

Please send me your email address so I can have various emails sent to you, including WMD artist approval notifications and streaming server dropout notifications. Let me know if you need anything with the site etc. If the actual shoutcast servers are changing, please let me update the web server's settings, they dynamically generate the playlist files that are served based on current load and server availability.

I'll match your $20 for one word, or $35 for an explanation of absence...

I was looking for a way to fill 10 minutes and decided to do a little just slightly big-brotherish stalking of Howard's wazee.org browsing habits, to see if he even checks the site. There are indeed occasional requests to wazee.org from his home IP, including ones to /forum...

I saw him on AIM a few days ago and messaged him, but got the usual in reply  Undecided

Starting with me.

I feel like I should be donating, but with the extended absesnse/silence of Howard, I am a little reluctant to until I know what's going on. So this thread is for anyone that wants to pledge their support as soon as we get the thumbs-up from Howard.

Up for now, courtesy of the box apparently rebooting AGAIN...so not sure how long it will last...

Damn. The crappy wireless on the netbook I happened to be using when I gave the streaming server a try cut out, and now it won't let me reconnect again. When I logged in the machine was at the same spot stuck restarting, so it looks like my credentials work only while the machine is coming up. Guess we get to wait for a power outage or OS update or something. That really sucks.

Well I've got it working to the tune of one track at a time...hang on...
28  Main Index / Technical/Help / Re: Where did wazee go? on: August 11, 2009, 06:05:21 pm
OK that's whack...the server the stream originates at is now letting me log in again...maybe I'll try a little harder to start it up again as it appears Howard is not trying to prevent me from doing so...still I feel a little uncomfortable poking about someone else's box that I don'tn know what's going on with it...

For the record, as I understand it the lion's share of the cash goes to Sound Exchange for rights to the sound recording, not ASCAP/BMI for rights to the musical composition. I spent a good hour on Sunday going through the actual legislation in the Federal Register etc and what I got out of it was "non-commercial" broadcasters are currently actually less empowered because they must pay the prevailing rates set by the CRB, whereas commercial operations that are in a position to be paying out over $25k a year in royalties are given a break. A very recent agreement between Sound Exchage and College Broadcasters, Inc (and several other groups) drops royalties to a fixed $500 a month with a cap on total music streamed, but this is still way more than I imagine we would be able to scare up, and probably there's no way we could become eligible anyway as we don't have a college affiliation.

Maybe I missed something, the laws are actually quite complicated, but I thought I'd share what I found.

I have no idea what's going on with Wazee, I was just thinking about starting up something else.
