1  The Music / The Music / Songs That Stink on: July 07, 2005, 12:44:28 pm
Ok, let me be the one to clarify in a non-kiss-assey way.  The so-called rap that you play sucks.  And you do not play hip hop.  You are urbanly confused, yo.  The closest you get is Beastie Boys and any long-time listening Beastie fan (such as myself) knows without much debate that the newest album is their worst album.  It may as well have been the Democrats political agenda put to a ba-ba-boom.  Where's Pauls Boutique?  Wheres Sabotage?

The crap you are passing off as rap or hiphop is offensive to my (arguably most of our) ears.  There's no Smalls, no Snoop, no Game, and not even any Smith.  You give us Sage Francis, Ultrafunkula and some eigth grade dropout duet singing like pixie fairies and call it a palette cleanser and spoof about how its the musical revolution?  The Dyno guys laughing at themselves a la Beavis and Butthead put to a plastic pail drum beat would be better.  I do listen to rap and urban regularly, I know it isn't really the kind of "stuff" played here.

Four most active community members complained about the quality/quantity of rap within 3 hours.  While that might be a small sampling of actual listeners I can look through the requests and see that there is not a single request for any rap or hip hop - ever.

Dude, Howard, with all due respect because I do respect what you do here, anything worth doing is worth doing well.  And you'd be well on your way to admit that the shitastic rap that you play is the worst rap has to offer - so why bother?  I'd bet a good sized donation that you get most that shit from promo CD's so I'm not entirely buying the idea that you're "going against the structurefreaks telling you what to play".

I don't think anyone here wants to be locked into a single subgenre, that isn't what I'm saying.  In fact, that's one of the magical pluses of wazee.  But I will advise that if you're going to meander into a different genre, ie: rap, thrash, at least pull in the best instead of the worst.  With the college/mod/alt/rock realeases plus the (fantastic) WMD alone you have more than enough playlist to satiate the thirstiest music lover - I just don't understand why you'd want to splash vinegar on my tongue to remind me how bad it tastes.

But, you're right, it's your station and you can do what you want. But the rap you play still sucks and I'm not afraid to say it.  Bring on the "Real nigga"...

See ya,

- Spike

This station is the like the slut of internet radio stations.. they'll play anything.  I don't know how much longer I can handle the highs and lows of wazee. I love the good unknowns and up and comings that fall into the *professed genre* but the off-the-wall covers, shit raps and thrash metal infusion has me listening less and less to wazee and more and more to its competition.

Pray For The Soul of Betty - Cry

And.. yeah that Adema is great.  Sounds nothing like them, they get a new singer or something?  Sounded softer and musically quite different too.

And " i just zone out the singing and concentrate on the instruments" regarding that Darkest Hour song.  Fuck yeah man, the music is tight and good.

darkest hour -thousand words to say but one

Since i can't understand a damn thing he says, what is the "one" word?  Man, I just really dig that music but I cannot get into that singing.. wish I could because I'm sure it puts me off to alot of good instrument playing.

OMFG.. that is hilarious.  I didn't know it was ok to do tricks with your sack like that but what the hell, the next chick who sees me naked is getting a puppet show.

Thanks man.

Sadly.. for that one I have a real life visual of one of my crazy friends actually doing that.  We were out partying and getting a little crazy and he decided to jump up on the pool table in the bar, drop his pants and do what he called a "fruit basket".  Funniest thing but... well I dunno, just but something (not right).

I disagree, they maybe influenced alot of crap music.  They were better known for their videos and Corgan's bald head.  Everything of Siamese was marketed with videos directly through MTV.  The pumpkins died when MTV stopped playing videos.  Ever go to a Pumpkins show?  You stand there with the other fools who showed up and wish you spent your money on Soundgarden or Alice so you had something to rock to before the third set.

And Zwan suuuuuuucks bad.  For a guy with an intimidating look he sure knows how to tuck his sack up in his ass crack and try to replicate the pop sensation they got with Cherub Rock.

There's a few great songs though, Zero comes to mind immediately.  The electronica song "Eye" was decent too.  I think Bologna is real decent too, but again its just not a song you can jam to.  Maybe cry along to.

On the whole, I think they're wildly overrated.  But in the same breath, if you're a person who's thinks themself into music more than the average Joe, I should think they are worth at least giving an honest run through your own ears.

Crossfade - Colors...... ROCKS.

I don't know how I missed it, my buddy has this CD and I've spun it maybe three times and Colors never stuck out til I was doing some late nite work and poker playing while listening to the waz (my term) with my headphones on.  Or maybe it just applies since I'm riding a pretty low point in my existence.  Either way, I think its a crisp tune.

And WTF.. Loretta Lynn just played ?  She got something to do with Hawaii?

ALL AMERICAN REJECTS - Dirty Little Secret
- Eh...

BREAKING BENJAMIN - Rain (2005)
- Pretty mellow for Benjamin but I like it

DARKEST HOUR - With A Thousand Words To Say But One [dl@wazee]
- Tight music but singing is just god awful.  Whats with all these metal bands on wazee that actually sing with nicotine throat instead of having a gravelly throat?  Like Zao and "Ohio is for lovers" which is ruined with the backup vocals sounding like this.  It's just horrible to my ears and I'm a 'banger from way back.

DIAMOND BACK - Submission [dl@wazee]
- Decent, I liked it.

FISCHERSPOONER - Never Win
- I hated the prior Spooner songs.. this one is good, more melodic instead of showcasing how fast his fingers can move.

KILLERS - All These Things That I've Done [video rock mix]
- Second verse, same as the first.  BTDT, ready to move on.

MEGADETH - The Scorpion
- WTF Huh  More of this?

RA - The Only One
- Just as good as their previous stuff, maybe marginally better.

TRANSPLANTS - Gangsters And Thugs
- I've heard this album a few times, if you like this sort of thing (I do) then its a good album, if not then you'll hate it.

WILLIE NELSON - I'm A Worried Man (feat. Toots Hibbert)
- I'm a Willie fan.. if we can have shitty Megableh we should be able to handle this country's best pothead.

Hmm, looking back I must have felt abit opinionated today.

Ten people can stare at a Picasso and give ten different reasons what they think he meant.  Art is art.  Enough said.

Yeah I like the original Beat Me, too.. more so than Hey, Mister.

For the record... I cannot stand OLP and that guys voice.  Talk about whiney.. but I know most ya'll do so I keep it in perspective.  =)

I have been enjoying:

Spoofed Tribe - Dirt 4 Sale (reminds me of Shpongle, only not ambient)
Meagan McCauley - Die For You (wont last though)
Stereophonics - Superman (great lyrics too)
Tommy Lee - Trying to Be Me (his best solo yet)
Mannikim - 6 Billion Mimes (still)

Have a great weekend..
