P.S. And if you keep up this "rap sucks" crazy talk I'm puttin' Real Nigga back into heavy rotation until you get your shit together!! Rap (hip hop) has been the most influential movement in music in the past 20 years! Yeah, even bigger than Nirvana and the flannel shirt crowd! Dammit. Word!

Ok, let me be the one to clarify in a non-kiss-assey way. The so-called rap that you play sucks. And you do not play hip hop. You are urbanly confused, yo. The closest you get is Beastie Boys and any long-time listening Beastie fan (such as myself) knows without much debate that the newest album is their worst album. It may as well have been the Democrats political agenda put to a ba-ba-boom. Where's Pauls Boutique? Wheres Sabotage?
The crap you are passing off as rap or hiphop is offensive to my (arguably most of our) ears. There's no Smalls, no Snoop, no Game, and not even any Smith. You give us Sage Francis, Ultrafunkula and some eigth grade dropout duet singing like pixie fairies and call it a palette cleanser and spoof about how its the musical revolution? The Dyno guys laughing at themselves a la Beavis and Butthead put to a plastic pail drum beat would be better. I do listen to rap and urban regularly, I know it isn't really the kind of "stuff" played here.
Four most active community members complained about the quality/quantity of rap within 3 hours. While that might be a small sampling of actual listeners I can look through the requests and see that there is not a single request for any rap or hip hop - ever.
Dude, Howard, with all due respect because I do respect what you do here, anything worth doing is worth doing well. And you'd be well on your way to admit that the shitastic rap that you play is the worst rap has to offer - so why bother? I'd bet a good sized donation that you get most that shit from promo CD's so I'm not entirely buying the idea that you're "going against the structurefreaks telling you what to play".
I don't think anyone here wants to be locked into a single subgenre, that isn't what I'm saying. In fact, that's one of the magical pluses of wazee. But I will advise that if you're going to meander into a different genre, ie: rap, thrash, at least pull in the best instead of the worst. With the college/mod/alt/rock realeases plus the (fantastic) WMD alone you have more than enough playlist to satiate the thirstiest music lover - I just don't understand why you'd want to splash vinegar on my tongue to remind me how bad it tastes.
But, you're right, it's your station and you can do what you want. But the rap you play still sucks and I'm not afraid to say it. Bring on the "Real nigga"...
See ya,
- Spike

Hate to say it, Spike... I may dislike some of the rap that's played, but I'm sure not gonna give Howard hell over a few rap songs... Hell, you play one N'Sync song a day, I don't care... Just keep the underground and new bands/music coming in man...
I'm not dwelling on the bad. If I look at my day, there's about 3 - 7 songs in a day that I may not like out of.... what... how many songs are played in an 8 - 10 hour period? Sure, some songs are just filler to my ears, but to other people, it could be pure gold and YES, I may bitch about it once in a while, but I'm sure everyone can put up with a little bitching once in a while... At the end of the day though, I can safely say I'm VERY satisfied with my day (musically, at least)...
When all is said and done, do whatever the hell you want, Howard... Until the day you start playing country, you'll always be my number one choice (even if you play stupid rap songs once in a while)... This is the best station since they took WFNX (Boston) off broadband 2 years ago. I hate to say it Spike, if ya hate it that much, do like I do when Oasis comes on... Change to the mp3's or radio or whatever you want, wait 6-8 minutes and come back.
"If there wasn't music that sucked, we wouldn't know what music rocked"...

at the risk of a karma drop... it gets annoying to see the same people continually complaining over and over about the same thing. And then they don't really have any other comments for the station

because my room mate has officially ruined rap almost all together for me I now only really listen to it if the song actually has something intelligent to say (for the most part)

for example... he is one of the few rappers i have seen on TV where they actually have something intelligent to contribute. granted not all of his songs are as intelligent as others but some of them actually have some sort of meaning and not just "oh look at the money i have because I am singing some song about how much money i have" I tried to find a transcript of one of the shows I am referring to but apparently there wasn't one kept. http://www.k-osmusic.com/Listening to k-os is the greatest way to understand him. Kevin Brereton, aka k-os (pronounced: chaos), is the answer to the repetitive and monotonous urban drivel that plagues today's music because he doesn't hide behind a fabricated image or over-produced beats.
His music is raw and minimalistic, often embracing the concept of musical space (check the track "Heaven Only Knows"). And while apparently sparse, the organic beats still ring with a boom-bap quality, capable of bringing words to life. k-os is truly a triple threat - rapper, singer and producer. He offers a unique style of acoustic hip-hop and soul that takes listeners on a spiritual journey. http://music.yahoo.com/ar-298223-videos--KOshttp://www.astralwerks.com/kos/music.htmlThe video for man I used to be is pretty good and its one of the better songs on that page.

Spike & Howard Although I said I'd keep quiet about this for fear of REAL NIGGA returning. Just thinking about Real Nigga makes my sphincter pucker I feel like Spike does that the rap/Shit hop is not why I tune in here. I have in fact gone to my own playlists when there is more than two or three rap songs played in a hour. I beleive in my heart that most, if not all of us are Rock fans here. ALT ROCK to be more precise. I have said in the past that where I work there are 7-8 people that I have turned on to Wazee. They have ALL expressed the desire for the rap to go away. It is a complete consensus. I will be starting a thread today to post a poll and find out just how many agree and dissagree that the rap should stay or go. Howard has given me every reason to beleive that he really does listen to his members. I am confident that he will see the results and deal with them accordingly. Sounds like a democratic way to solve this don't you think?
