Why didn't I discover this post earlier? Here in Norway, we have a "signing campaign" (do you understand what I mean?) against copy protection. I'm sure everyone would be interested...but the campaign is only in norwegian! I heard roumors about an international campaign, but it ends TOMORROW, so I don't think it's to any use.

Anyway, if someone really, really wants to sign this campaign, that ends tomorrow, I have a solution:

http://forbrukermakt.drmowinckel.com/index.php?v=underskriv
There's the link to the signing page. To help you, I will translate the important words to you:

"Navn" means "Name". Pretty obvious?
"Epost" means "Email". That wasn't too hard? The little clicky box is for showing your email public or not. The text "epostadresse vil ikke bli utnyttet til spam" means that your email won't be used for spam.
"(og adressen blir manipulert slik at de ikke blir fisket av spamroboter)" means that your adress will be manipulated, so spambots can't fish'em up.
"Bosted" means "place you live" or something. Just type in your country, I think.
"Yrke" is "what you work with" or something like that (my english vocabulary isn't excactly complete). Write "student" or whatever you do for a living.
"Kommentar" means "comment". Say exactly what you want, to the record company EMI, about copy protection.

This was basically everything you need. But, to make this a little more trustworthy, I can translate the text you are signing for.
Here's the original norwegian text:
"Jeg som forbruker nekter å være tilskuer til at plateselskapene selger produkter som ikke innfrir forbrukerens rettigheter. Kopisperren "Copy Controlled" hindrer forbrukeren i å ta berettigede kopier til eget bruk, og fungerer ikke i alle avspillere. Plater med kopisperre kan også ødelegge enkelte avspillere. Jeg viser derfor mitt standpunkt mot kopisperrer ved å boikotte plater merket "Copy Controlled"."
and this is my improvised english translation:
"I, as a consumer, refuses to witness that record companies sells products that doesn't fulfill the consumers rights. The copy protection "Copy Controlled" denies the consumer to make entitled(can this word be right?) copies for own use, and doesn't work in all CD-players. Records with copy protection can also destroy some players. Therefore, I show my standing point(?) by boikotting(?) records marked "Copy Controlled"

PUH! That's it. I don't expect many signings, but it would be cool to have some international people in there too. The site http://www.drmowinckel.com/ is a fan site for the band "Kaizers Orchestra". Would be fun to have in your playlist btw Wink

That's all folks... I think. The reason I wrote this here is because I'm in a hurry and didn't want to create a new thread just because of this. Just reply in here if there's something you're unsure about!

Edit: Just styling it up!

Well... If you didn't sign the last one, here's a new chance. This time in ENGLISH! Because the campaign only got about 7000 signings last petition (which was only in norwegian), they've now gone INTERNATIONAL!

I want everyone to at least look at the site, and spread the word!

Ditto, I also signed my name to the list. Anything to help stop this consumer scam.

I just ran across this on CNN entertainment
It's about how some of the bands who's labels have put copyright technology on their disc's are helping the fans around it. Good on ya, I say.

Going somewhat along with that, Harvey Danger (where the hell have they been for the last 5 years?) has released its new album on the internet - for FREE!

Check it out: http://www.harveydanger.com/downloads/
