I know that this is an older topic that spawned Howard's other thread, but I saw these guys open for the Killers a week or so ago, and I had to say - very impressive!  I went in only having heard a clip of Primative (The Way I Treat You) - thinking it  was a pretty funky song.  Then when I heard the whole thing live - awesome!  Rest of it all sounded great as well, I'm digging Anecdote too.  Some Beatles, Elliot Smith and crazy other influences in there.

Back on topic - after the show I saw a copy of the CD they were selling at the show, and nowhere on it could I see the Compact Disc logo or a copy protected logo.   I'm not sure if the disc is different here in Canada than the one from Denver, but the record companies are sneaky bastards to think they can pull that off.  I got to talk to the singer and guitarist after and asked them if their stuff was copy protected or not, and they seemed genuinely clueless about the topic.  Leads me to wonder how much say bands have in their product after it leaves their hands and gets to the labels?

The Record Companies are Greedy Green Headed Skag. One of the most corrupt & greedy businesses going. Unfortunately they prey on bands that (through no fault of their own) have  somewhat limited business and legal skills. So they take advantage of the fact that they just don't know the in's and out's of the biz. Many later find out too late, they have been fleeced and or deceived!
I hate to rant, but the bands have to cut out the middleman. They have made music a bussiness scam. If the bands want to be fairly compensated for their art & keep the integrity of their music.
The accessability of the net has put the last nail in the coffin I hope.

Why else would they be fighting tooth and nail to sue people.  I have the utmost respect for artists that start their own labels or sign with smaller record labels that use alternative means of promoting music.

Bad Religion did it back in the 80's and look where they are now.

You say you want me to say "I'm sorry."
But I don't have to and I don't want to say it
'Cause I'm not sorry
