I have a hard time pigeon-holing a lot of the types of music I listen to, most I'd just throw under the broad banner of "alternative". I know that Dashboard Confessional is one of the easier bands to classify as emo, but what of Unwritten Law, Brand New, The Weakerthans and the like? Has emo started spewing out sub-genres yet? Bound to happen eventually, maybe even before the inevitable anti-emo backlash (which seems to be spearheaded by kittiescaresme)...

That's what I was thinking but I wasn't sure why someone would want to "Kill emo".  To each their own is my motto. I don't care if someone else likes ICP, I don't that's for sure but that's their business.  |

normal emo - bright eyes (yuck)
screamo - Sad screaming music
Something to cry to...

I don't know how you can come to the automatic conclusion that any sad song is emo, and any non-sad song is not emo. Ask bands, most hate the emo label because it is so inclusive. I would label Fall Out Boy as emo, even though they are defined as more punk and rock. Same goes for Jimmy Eat World, The Juliana Theory, The Early November, etc. Emo is a tremendously broad category, one in which Coheed and Cambria would likely fall. Now if you want to develop more subcategories other than the two that you suggested, then that's another story....but bunching emo as "sad bastard" music (w/ the stereotype being Dashboard) I don't think is the right categorization
